Antique, Boat shape, Sapphire and Diamond ring in 18ct gold.
A beautiful, Boat Shape or Marquise shape, Sapphire and Diamond ring hallmarked in London, 1906. The Makers mark is indistinct as the ring was re-sized next to close to it at some point in the past. The settings are in surprisingly good condition for a ring of this age, but the stones and the setting edges have helped this. I suspect one of the Sapphires is a replacement, but is well colour matched.
General Description: 18ct gold, Boat Shape Sapphire and Diamond ring.Ring Size: UK size M (US 6.5)
Measurements: The head of the ring measures approximately 5.7 mm at the widest point and the setting is approximately 15.5 mm wide across the finger. The setting is approximately 4.2 mm high off the finger. The shank tapers from the setting width to approximately 2 mm at the back.
Stone details: 4x Old Cut Diamonds and 2x Oval Sapphires. The Diamonds weigh approximately 0.38cts in total. The clarity ranges from I1 to VS1. The colour is difficult to assess in this setting, but appears to be in the H-J region. The Sapphires are a little more difficult to work out, but the measurements are approximately 3.5 x 2.5 mm and are a good, bright, blue with few inclusions.
Metal and Marks: Partial Makers mark of H&, Birmingham, 1906, 18ct gold. There is also an old pattern number 3613, and the remains of an inscription which has faded.
Weight: Approximately 3.98 grams
Condition: The settings and Diamonds are in very good condition, the Sapphires have some wear to the facet edges on the top of the stones. Otherwise, this is in very good condition.
This is an excellent quality ring.
It is possible to size this, but please ask first, so we can make sure it's possible and what cost/timescale may be involved.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically.
The Diamond gradings in this listing are my own opinion and not backed up by a Diamond Grading report. These gradings are based on many years’ experience dealing in Diamonds and Gemstones along side the training I have received and qualifications I hold (such as GIA’s Diamond Diploma). These opinions are offered as honestly as possible. Unless otherwise stated, the gradings are assessed whilst the stones are mounted. This can cause restrictions in what is possible to see.
