Vintage Emerald and Diamond cluster ring in 18ct gold.
Not the usual style of Emerald and Diamond cluster ring, something a little different. This ring was made by Bates and Sons, a firm I always looked forward to seeing when I started in the trade. Their representative always had something new and exciting to show, whether it's a style that was new, an unusual gemstone or just a lovely range of quality pieces. This ring is no exception. The claw settings lift the setting off the finger and keep the whole thing looking bright and sparkly.
Ring Size: UK/AU size R 1/2 (US 8 7/8)
Measurements: The head of the ring measures approximately 6.3 mm at the widest point and the setting is approximately 21 mm wide across the finger. The setting is approximately 6mm high off the finger. The shank tapers from the shoulder to approximately 2.7mm at the back.
Stone Details: Set with 5x 2.5mm diameter mixed cut Emeralds and 8x 2mm brilliant cut Diamonds. The Emeralds are of a lovely, rich green colour, typical of the high colour saturation of Zambian material available at the time. There are traces of oiling for clarity enhancement, which is very common for Emeralds. The Diamonds are very bright, VS clarity and F/G colour. Beautiful gems throughout.
Metal and Marks: Full UK Hallmarks for Bates & Son, Birmingham, 18ct gold, 1989.
Weight: Approximately 3.71 grams
Condition: Very good. The settings are in very good condition with minimal signs of being worn. There is some very slight chipping to the Emeralds, but this is not uncommon as Emeralds are a little more susceptible to damage. This wear is only seen under magnification. It's a very nice right in lovely condition.
It may be possible to size this if needed, but please ask first, so we can make sure it's possible and what cost/timescale may be involved.
Additional Notes: If you are looking for an engagement ring or everyday ring, this might not be for you. Emeralds are a little softer and more brittle than some other stones, which can lead to them picking up a little more damage. I'm of the old school and feel it's essential to tell you this first.
All vintage items have been worn and loved before they find their next owner, so they should always be worn or used with a little more care than a brand new piece. Some minor scratches are normal. All vintage pieces I sell have been thoroughly cleaned and lightly polished when required. If repairs are needed before it's offered for sale, they are completed sympathetically.
The Diamond gradings in this listing are my own opinion and not backed up by a Diamond Grading report. These gradings are based on many years’ experience dealing in Diamonds and Gemstones along side the training I have received and qualifications I hold (such as GIA’s Diamond Diploma). These opinions are offered as honestly as possible. Unless otherwise stated, the gradings are assessed whilst the stones are mounted. This can cause restrictions in what is possible to see.
